English LanguageTeacher
(Japan, Matsuyama-shi)
Required Degrees:
BA, plus TESL-TEFL/RSA, etc
Fields of Expertise: ESL/EFL, French, Spanish, music (voice and instrument), theatre (acting, etc)
Salary: Negotiable
Details: Students are mostly adults (private or group), some kids classes and outside company classes; in addition, we teach on-line, through the Internet.
The job is five days a week (40 hours), from 1p.m. to 10p.m. (includes a 1 hour dinner break). The maximum classroom teaching load is up to 25 hours per week.
Teachers generally follow the Crossroads teaching system based on techniques using drama, “script writing” and performance/presentations by the students, but are given ample flexibility to apply their own experience and strengths to the classroom. It is expected that teachers will contribute to ongoing discussions on the course materials and methods currently in use.
A new and experimental approach to teaching at Crossroads involves additional skills or talents our teachers may possess in such fields as fine art, music (instruments as well as vocal), cooking, yoga, magic and others. This program is designed to help students absorb language through a direct and interactive experience, a method loosely akin, in theory at least, to some areas covered by TPR, but with content. We favor professional ESL teachers with some degree of recognition/training in these areas.
To succeed at Crossroads you will need to be flexible, adaptable and patient with a great sense of humor! Above all, you will need to be a professional, committed to teaching.
The full-time teacher’s minimum basic salary is from 250,000-270,000 yen per month (qualifications and experience will be considered). In addition, various overtime rates of up to 3,000 yen/hour are available.
Paid holidays, full health insurance and visa sponsorship, included.
A centrally located furnished apartment, with phone and within walking distance of the school, is arranged by the school - the apartments deposit/key money is also paid by the school.
