Gandy Associates English Communication Training
Details: Celebrating 30 years of service, Gandy Associates is a respected leader in the corporate language and communication training field. Current clients include major banks, accounting firms, hi-tech companies, and the Ontario Government.
Gandy is currently seeking a well-experienced ESL instructor with corporate savvy to deliver intermediate to advanced language and business communication training to professionals at corporate clients. The current need is for a contract-based part-time trainer to serve north Toronto, Markham and Whitby, Ontario, Canada. This position requires a car since many corporate client sites are not easily accessed by public transit.
After receiving orientation and training, the new team member will deliver Gandy’s already established speaking and writing courses as 1:1 coaching or in a group setting of 2-10 participants. Each group program typically involves a series of ten weekly two-hour sessions. Multiple contracts may be stacked to yield a typical work week of 6-20 teaching hours, with the possibility of supplementary income via commission-based sales activities. The work is anticipated to begin in February 2015. Summer is typically a slow period for corporate training.
Though part-time, this position assumes a long-term commitment on both sides -- in the range of 10 years or more.
Duties , Responsibilities:
- Conduct a 10-minute pre-placement interview with each participant by telephone and record findings
- Facilitate Gandy training and act as Gandy ambassador at corporate client sites
- Provide feedback to Gandy supervisor regarding participant progress
- Record weekly attendance and post it punctually on SharePoint
- Use the Gandy CRM to locate client data and to record participant information
- Prepare a one-page final progress report for each participant using a template
- Communicate occasionally with participants by email to provide information and homework feedback
- Submit accurate invoices detailing wage and expense categories
- Collaborate occasionally with Gandy team members to create new curriculum
- Take on other roles, such as sales, as desired
- Potentially progress to a position of leadership
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements for this position include:
- TESL certification
- Expertise in teaching ESL grammar or pronunciation
- Three years experience teaching ESL or communication skills
- University degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline
- Two years of experience in a culturally diverse corporate setting (as a trainer or as an employee)
- Empathy and respect for culturally diverse learners
- Superior professional communication skills
- Impeccable ethics
Although this posting focuses on qualifications to teach business English skills in a corporate classroom setting, additional skills would be an asset to the Gandy team:
- High comfort level with business software (SharePoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, databases, CRMs)
- Experience using virtual classrooms (e.g. Adobe Connect)
- Social media marketing expertise (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Constant Contact, WordPress)
