I get several job posting emails a week and have been offered to apply at one...Berlitz. I have no intention of ever working for them as I know their system. They were my competitors when I owned my own language school in the U.S. and I know they teach a very standard approach that does not suit all levels or types of students.
Other than that I have not received any other offers...

Thanks for that reply. You said some interesting things here. First i am happy you did not speak well of Berlitz. They were a company that I thought about applying to. Now I may reconsider (though you did not state the reason for your discontent). I just signed up for this website a few days ago. I received 5 emails saying that new jobs have been posted, and I actually received one phone call from a guy in China. He left a message that he was possibly interested in hiring me, but gave no details on his message. He also sent me an email saying he would call back. That is pretty positive so far I suppose. I have posted my resume on other (non teaching) job boards in the past and I find that I get lots of offers for comissioned work (ie. real estate mortgages, realtor, telemarketer), yet I rarely if ever get anyone actually interested in hiring me with no strings attached. I would love to hear from one single person on this website who actually got a job offer, took the job, and found the job to be good, and all that they expected it to be.

I have yet to find a single person on any job board who has stepped up to the plate on that one. of course that is not to say they are not out there.

Who knows, perhaps it will be you... Or me...

Best regards
Andrew

Well Andrew,
I see you have not gotten any more replies to your question. I am beginning to wonder also if anyone here has ever gotten a response to their application and secured a good job.
I receive messages from this site on the average of one or two per day but have not yet received any replies to my applications. I have an excellenat CV and so there should be no reason not to get solid job offers at least once a week as I am well qualified for every job I apply for.

hmmm...any more thoughts on this?

Oh and by the way,
I am certain that Berlitz must be a good program for its customers as they have maintained steady growth around the world for many years but I have seen their approach and it is quite rigid and standardised for my way of teaching. I tailor my approach to students as individuals keeping their particular needs in mind as I work with them and construct our lessons. The company however, trains its teachers - whom, it must be said, are often fresh on the teaching scene - in its own methods. Such a cookie cutter approach does not suit very many students but suits the company as they offer in New York what they offer in Munich or Dubai.

The salaries are not as high as other schools and colleagues who have worked for them have expressed dissatisfaction with their tenure there.
So that is all I can possibly say on the matter, but it is perhaps enough!

Andrew, This is my first year teaching in South Korea. Last year I applied for several teaching positions on many websites. The serious job offers that I did receive were directly from schools not recruiters. The teachers at the schools were placing the ads for their school. My job search took 7 days and a month later I was on a plane.

well, i´d like to say that i have had so many offers on this site that i can not keep up.
I have been sent over 300 job listings and spoken to many of the schools. And finally I accepted a position. So I´m not sure why it´s not working for you. I´m sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. best wishes. Rachael

Thanks Rachael, Daniel and Zaharr.

Rachael, I did not say this site was not working for me. I received hundreds of emails from employers. I am just not sure who to reply to. I don´t know what to really expect when I get to China or wherever. I am concerned that when I arrive they will say the salary they promised me cannot be paid. Or worse, that there is no apartment, no job, nothing. This is why I wanted to hear from people who have applied, received job offers, taken the jobs, and really went to wherever it was the job was supposed to be, and found all to be good and as promised. So far I have only 3 replies since January when I posted this (You, Daniel, and Zaharr).

As for me I don´t have perfect credentials. But they should be sufficient. I have an Associates degree, with a total of 103 University credits, but I never got my BA or BS degree. I do however have 4 years of teaching experience in NYC in a Travel and Tourism Business school. I have taught hundreds of Non Native English speakers the travel and tourism industry, English, Hotel Management...etc. I have a Business school teachers certificate from CUNY which is expired, only because I moved out of NY and now live in Florida.

So anyway, of the hundreds of emails I receive I am just not sure which school to go with or what part of China or the world is right for me.

Best regards,
Andrew

Hello again,
I have indeed continued to receive about the same offers per day - one or two - and have received some answers!
Sadly, the place I really wanted to go and teach - the Gulf States - do not take applicants over the age of 58. This is too close to my age and I was disqualified for more than ten positions because of this.

Also, Americans are unlikely to get positions teaching in the E.U. States. Be very careful about working ANYwhere illegally!

I WAS hired by someone who found me here but before two days had passed, I was asked to leave the company because of something that has been published about someone with my name on the Internet.

Please be careful about anything that goes up on your name on the ´net! Some countries are very concerned about your activities as reported by someone who perhaps has a similar name or who did not like you or who held some sort of grudge against you.

I was able to get most of the stuff removed but it was a giant hassle and left me intimidated and - as yet - unemployable. No one really thinks that these sorts of problems can cause trouble with employment but believe me, they do!

Good luck to everyone. I continue MY job search, may you soon find an end for yours!
