Does anybody have ANY tips on going about getting an EU work permit? Despite numerous offers from Asia and Eastern Europe, I´m still reluctant to give up my vision of working in Spain. I know Europe has rights of ancestry laws and my granddad was a Scotsman who came to America in his early 20´s, , so there´s that. I would, however appreciate any "insider" tips that were more failsafe. Thanks.

"Insider tips"? Well Jennifer if they´re posted on the internet than they´re not too insider but I tell you a little about my experience in Spain. For years it was dead easy easy to work there as a non-EUer though all things change and gradually that is too. The most recent time I was there was in ´03 and though I wasn´t legal and more and more schools are demanding proper papers it was still possible to find work and if you´re good and ready to work hard you can still get ahead w/o all the documentation. As to getting legal there´ s always marriage which, if I understand correctly, offers immediate right to live and work. Also there´s the incorporating way though I have no first hand knowledge but I´ve heard with the right lawyer and and sufficient capital you can set up your own company and do it that way. Buena suerte!

Ancestry laws exist! I´m working on mine. Unfortunately, I have too many relatives whose documents must be found, certified, translated, and handed over to the Consulate. But, fingers crossed, in six months to a year, I´ll be an Italian citizen.
