I have talked twice to them about positions. I guess I ask too many questions before I sign a contract because 2 different times, they were extremely eager to talk with me, and I even had a job lined up... AND... they never call back. One lady was named Zanore, and the other one is named Donna or Debbie. They are a recruiting agency. You can get more money working at a school you find on your own in Istanbul ( RFT you start with a base pay for full time school then pay you more money for however many private lessons you teach per week) The summer program they talked to me about was 1500.00 for 5 weeks, and I don´t think it is too bad for Turkey but... when they were trying to hire for the regular school year, the salary was ufff. So, I hope I helped you with wondering who RFT is.

RFT is a placement agency not a school. I have talked with them 2 different times about getting a teaching position. They are flaky. I have a pre-k job lined up for when I arrive in Istanbul in 2 weeks but I found it on other sites. RFT gives a base pay for a full time teaching position then to make more money through them you must teach private lessons. You can find schools to teach where you will make more money that RFT provides and you will teach a normal school day. I hope this helps you.

Hello Gina...did RFT help you get your working visa?

Hi Gina,
How is your transition to Turkey going? I have to teach in Istanbul in the Autumn and I am very nervous about the city. I did a lot of ´net research and actually located the highest crime areas in the city. I reccommend anyone going to work there to do the same.
BTW I am one of those unhappy women who married a Turk only to find out he wanted an American visa and not a wife. I pray you have found a partner and are happy. My divorce comes up in a week and I know too many cases of foreign women in the same boat. There are websites for girlriends and wives of Turks in English and if you ever need info there´s a good place to check out.
Best of luck with everything!

Hi! My name is Diane. Does anyone happen to know the age limit for teachers in Turkey?

Hi Diane,
I think you wanted to start a new thread...but anyway... I have been working here for four years and have found that many native English-speaking teachers consider this a ´retirement job´. There is no age limit as far I have seen.
I work in a university in Istanbul and there are several teachers in the English department that I think are close to seventy. More than anything, ability seems to count in Turkey.

It is not so surprising that you should ask about this. I worked in Japan and there were so many incidents of ´ageism´ in both the Japanese employment sector as well as amongst the foreigners who worked there. If you were over thirty you were ´over-the-hill´.

In the United Arab Emirates, it is impossible to get a working or even a residence visa when one turns sixty. You cannot even expect to be offered a job if you are over fifty-five.

Turks, on the other hand, seem to respect age.

Remember, however, that universities recruit in the Spring.
One can get a ´last minute´ position in September if a foreign teacher has changed her mind, but do not expect to have a very broad choice at that point.

The language schools, however, seem to hire all year long. Remember though, that you will be working longer hours and getting less money and limited job security as well as fewer benefits in those places.

Best of luck in your job hunt!
