ESL "Recruiters" & What You Send Them.
DO NOT send your face page of your passport to ANYONE. Be smart about what you send online to people. Many teachers get their ID´s ripped off, or have other problems shortly after applying for a job.

In many cases, people from Nigeria and other areas like China post fake ESL jobs using GMail, Yahoo, or other free mail accounts. Instead, send a general brief and a photo asking them for their details and credentials BEFORE you send them your life story.

If they claim they need your passport to process a visa, that is BS. what is needed is your name, PP#, and other data from the face page, but NOT the actual document in MOST cases. CHECK OUT the school and the "recruiter" first. DUE DILIGENCE!!!

I have found that most people who ask for your passport photo page are really just checking what nationality you are. There are a lot of people out there who claim to be American when they really are not. It is definitely wise to check out the School Recruiter first. It is not uncommon for schools to not have a website but recruiters definitely should!

I can´t see how someone could steal your identity from a scanned copy of a passport photo but.

Well...I am not going to post on here HOW it can be done, but believe me, it can be done, is being done, and many people have gotten back to their own countries to find that they are the proud owner of a new credit card or 10, a few car and home loans, and other assets, which are now in collection or in the courts. Nationality can be verified by your embassy on a notarized form signed by a diplomat with official seal. There is no need for anyone to have your passport. If you are an American, the passport is in fact property of the United States Government. I would suggest you have a chat with your local US federal agent with the US State Department at your nearest US Consulate or Embassy. He she has a title of RSO which means Regional Security Officer. They can fill you in on all the latest scams.
