I was dismissed from Dasman model school after my 60 day trail period. I was not given any written warning. I was notified that I was to leave the country and I was also told that they were not going to repatriate me or give me a flight home, I had to do that on my own. I also had to give up my apartment as well. The contract I signed clearly states that they would pay for a ticket back home. My passport and ID was cancelled and I was forced to move out of my apartment with no place to go. I had to raise the money to get home on.

While I was there I was placed in a classroom with second graders and told to keep them engaged in learning with no books, materals, worksheets or supplies.

Did you receive a verbal explanation for your termination? Was the trial (probationary) period written into your contract?

That is most unfortunate. It is futile to "go sue City Hall" or in this case the Government if it is a government school We all know how that would turn out. As for a Private School, you may be in the right BUT can you afford to sue (mental preoccupation as well as financial), what will the Courts actually do? Usually they decide against the Foreigner in favour of the National. Find that out first. Then, should you be so lucky as to have the Court rule in your favour, will you be able to collect? Standing on ’principle’ is noble but may be a waste of your time. Maybe you should just write off your loss and look to the future.

In reverse, I broke a contract with a Government University. I wonder if I returned to China if I would be taken to Court for damages. I was told to choose another Province and I would be OK. I am not so sure. After all, the Government is National. Anyone have some useful wisdom here? JR
