Well teaching grammar is one of the most important thing for foreign language teaching yet, it depends that what method is adopted by the linguist to teach a foreign language. I believe that we should use direct method and should teach grammar inductively not deductively. Means more importance should be given to language learning and during this process, learners should be helped to grasp various rules. Hope it would help you to some extent.

You are in the same bind as countless others. I teach oral English and am invariably confronted by students who have invested in the text set by the school which is a comprehensive English course.
Oral English dialogues take up a disproportionate amout of space. Accordingly, they are usually skimpy and give no opportunity for students to speak at length.
I have resorted to writing my own dialogues and developing speaking games.
As an aside, I have found that students who are apathetic about English in its grammar and vocab forms get a new lease of life when empowered to use a few phrases orally.

Teaching Spoken English through games and dialogues would be interesting. Would the students be able to use these dialogues at a stretch to converse on any topic?

Gladis, usually the domestic teacher teaches the grammar and writing. The foreign teacher reads dialogue. I make crossword puzzles, Q A, fill in the blanks. My greatest asset is drawing, which illustrates my points. Do you have a talent, like singing? We use DVD and tapes for songs and stories. I also help them with breathing and how to form the letters. Changing from one sound to the next can be tricky. Good luck! MCH
