Hello, My name is Alex from Peru, a NON native english speaker, I took Tesol TEFL course in Beijing last year and I am trying to look for a job. If you have any advice about a job please send me a message. My question is why only Native English Speaker receive this job offers? and Why is this course opening to everybody if only native english speakers will get a job? i have the same problem. i lived in the usa and have ba degree in english and german, in addition tefl certificate from boston language institute. i´ve been looking for a job for almost a year and still nothing. i guess they don´t want to hire non-native speakers because they can hire them from their own country, unfortunately for us ((

That´s exactly it...if they wanted to pay for a non-native speaker then they would look more into Chinese teachers because 1. they don´t have to pay for housing, visas, and transportation and 2. because they need to learn accent and word stress by hearing first hand.

You might try Thailand. They are very lax about employment requirements there. Pay is low, but cost of living is very low also. If you just fly there, and then approach a school, they will consider you for sure. You could teach Spanish somewhere too! Now I have a question: Is Peruvian Spanish much different from other parts of South America ?

Roberta, It is true what you say. But there are a lot of Native Speakers that their accent is good but their methodology isn’t.

Spanish is the same in all spanish speaking countries. Maybe you know formal language,the difference is the pronunciation and the local language.

Hey Carl, I can recently answer to your comment. Do you have any contact in Thailand or a database of schools that hire non native english speakers?. Spanish is the same in the whole world but when people start talking they use the language and words they learned all the time. Colombia y Perú have the best Spanish in all the skills.

Maybe, as you say, some native English speakers have poor methods of teaching, but sadly most English schools ONLY want a WHITE face in the front of the class. I suggest you try to find a job teaching Spanish.
