in japan you only need to show 4 yrs teaching background no degree is need and if you feel safe there. they will have lots of opening.

I have found that abroad the most basic 48 hour TEFL certificate seems to carry more weight with a recruiter than a PGCE or PhD as that is what they recognise. Occasionally I have felt like a surgeon being asked whether he has a first aid certificate. You will be fine.

without meaning to sound offensive to the audience, its one of those situations of "not what you know but who you know".....in the past 18 months i have met more illegal workers in korea than legal workers, of all nationalities....technically illegal, but documents say legal...how so? in our coutries it may be called "contract law" as an attorney buddy calls it...a document that can say you were a hollywood stuntman for brad pitt for the last 5 years......but do it in a legal way.....ohh those attorneys keep making life interesting....find a contract attorney in korea and youll be working in hours, good luck!

I have been in charge of hiring in Thailand and it is generally the case here where you can find work without a degree but not the good ones and you have to cross the border every 3 months or so and reenter on a new visa. In saying that, I know that there are a lot of people in Thailand who are doing just that.

I also have a TESOL certificate with no collee degree.. TEFL International advertised "Guaranteed Placement" when I took their course, but afterwards they told me that if they helped me get a job they’d have to help everybody. When I mentioned their guaranteed placement ad (which still runs) they pretended to not know what I was talking about. But I am here in a small town in the Dominican Republic and have opened my own school. I charge about $2.50US an hour per student, don’t take a class with less than 4 nor more than 10 students. 2 classes a week per student etc... I’m making about $700.00 a month whcih with my social security of a bit less than $1000.00 I live pretty well.

I live and teach in Mexico. I have a BA, but many of my co-teachers do not. It is relatively easy to work in Mexico without a degree.
