Hello, If you plan to be a teacher in China, according to the Law and Labor regulation, you should have one month of probation period for every year of contract. So one year contract, one month period, 2 years contract, 2 months probation and so one. IN ANY CASE, they cannot lower your salary for the probation period. Do your homework. With the new laws in China, the school should provide work visa, foreign expert certificate and work permit from the government. Good luck

not sure when you posted this - however I have seen teaching contracts that stipulate a period of probabtion for all teachers - not just new ones...meaning returning teachers - in theory - would also be on probabation like someone who has just started day 1 at the place. I am quite certain that I read probation was made illegal in China at some point around 2016. In any case, if offered a contract and it mentions probabation, a careful approach is necessary and at the very least try to find out what recently employed teachers at the institution have been saying. If it is not favourable, someone will have posted about it online. Use this information as a tool when negotiating a contract. If the place is good, the HR or person conducting the intervew will not take offence at asking about probation or the history of the school, etc. Also, do not send 'introduction videos' of yourself to someone you have never met. Especially if you have a good teaching background. Any decent employer will look at your background and references and if you can prove they are real, should be happy enough to not ask for a clapping monkey video first.
