Hello, Im interested in knowing any information about working in Saudi Arabia. My fiancé and I have been getting a few offers in Saudi Arabia, but are concerned about the culture. As a woman, I am worried about how safe it is and if anyone has ran into any problems.

Hi, Woman generally don't have a problem if you can adjust to the ffg. Saudi attire for woman, Not being allowed to drive. If you're not married ,you can't live together. If you do you run the risk of violating Saudi Law. There are no movie theaters, nite clubs or Pubs. Check the locations being offered . Read about Saudi culture. Hope this helps

I know it's been awhile since you asked this but I have 2 friends teaching in Riyadh. I agree with the man below that mentioned that you won't have a 'problem'. However, my two friends are teaching in a School in the city center. This is the largest female school in the capital. They absolutely hate it. One actually is planning on leaving after only one month. The rules are beyond strict and the least of their concerns is the attire. There is Saudi Law as well as the religious police. Not to mention there is literally nothing to do. It is a great adventure if you are into complete culture shock. I was also offered a job at this school - but turned it down after hearing everything from my friend already there. It was tough too because they offered $4500 USD / month. But frankly…now I see why. Without crazy pay no one would go there. Just saying.

HI Ariyana, I must say you had a great offer! Almost every Saudi Company offers a salary of $3200 but if you include all the benefits it would come to approximately $4500. Yeah living there is difficult!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm curious to know which company was offering $4500. You do have a good point about culture shock. My policy is expect the worst and everything gets better.

I've never worked in Saudi Arabia, but I have worked over seas in Korea. If I were you, I'd cross all of the middle east off your list, unless you're willing to spend a year or two in "solitary confinement". Also, keep in mind that you would be right in the center of ISIS terrorism and don't forget that the United States is at war with them. If that isn't enough to scare you, understand that as a woman, you will have very little significance in their society. You'll be bored out of your mind with no night life and all for just "some extra money". I'd say it is absolutely NOT worth it.

Don't listen to Jason Miller. He has no idea what he's talking about and even admits to not having experience in the KSA. I work in Saudi Arabia now and love it. You're not going to be that isolated, though you may be bored if you need a lot of external stimulus. If you're in Riyadh, that's a much more conservative city, and probably the most conservative. Go to Dammam or Jeddah. Jeddah is the most liberal city. It's very safe here. Easily one of the best decisions I've made.

Hello, Sorry to gate crash this thread but I am a newly qualified TEFL teacher but don't have a degree. Is there any way of getting work in Madina or Jedda in Saudi Arabia? Any advice would be much appreciated. I am also new to this website. I have no idea how it works. :)

Im Saudi , and I hate the limited freedom we have here BUT , i worked with a lot of Americans and they find their ways around that , first of all , Riyadh is a great city , ask to live in the DQ area , you will not be required to wear hijab there , you can go hiking, you can ride your bike freely , and there is a couple of coffee shops and really nice parks over there , you can also live in a American compound where you can practice your regular activities (even including Charisma's celebration decorations freely around the compound) , there are strict rules outside those areas , but you can still have fun , you can go shopping in big malls , enjoy nice restaurants , female gyms and spa centers , go bowling or skydiving. Jeddah is the least restricted and you can even go sky and sea diving there , they are also less restricted with covering . secondly , i dont agree with any of the people who terrify you regarding war or ISIS , first of all , the war is not in Saudi , it is only in the far south few villages , secondly , ISIS is not Saudi , in fact , we are the top country fighting ISIS , terrorist attacks are few , especially in the big city where you get offers like Riyadh , Jeddah , and Dammam and seldom happen in educational or expiators places , security standards are doubled in these places any how , if you want to know the real deal about working in Saudi , you get paid a lot , you get your own (free )transportation , (free ) nice housing with maximum security , and you get to live with Saudis and get to know the great culture that media don't show , plz talk to people who actually worked here for a while , i have came across Americans with families who had been here for decades , we have American and British schools that only accepts American and British kids , why do you think they still live here ? come here , get the experience , live with a new culture , save a lot of money and go home . regardless of what you hear , Saudis are very welcoming and friendly and will take good care of you !

I just wanted to say as Rishal has indicated, if you are not married you cannot live together,it's considered (Haram) sinful and in Saudi, illegal. Bahrain, Oman and the UAE are more moderate and tolerant. I would go there. I have a friend in Oman,if you would like to talk to someone.
