dear shawn, i have worked for 33 full contact non-stop hard punching in my teaching profession; till now it has proven to me that in the long run, a degree in english literature is going to maje you abreast of all not only in language but also in phsychology, philosophy, social studies, history, art and scientific thinking plus methodology. please take your time when you are still in your prime years; if you are in the late twenties, then go back to my first investment: invest three to four years and you will enjoy the rest of your life to the ultimate happiness. cheer up and go for it!!!!

You would want to get an MA in ESL or related fields and have experience with curriculum development. My advise would be to go to an accredited university and get a teaching assitantship which is a 2 year process, but you can have you tution paid and get a living stipend at most places. On top of that, depending upon the university you can get teaching and research experience as a TA.
