What will happen to all those so called elderly people (age by number) with vast experience and no openings anywhere? How will that knowledge see the light of the day ?

Gladis,
I am 57 and have no problem finding a job in China. I may have even 10 different job offers at a time. It does not look at all that bad for people at my age. But it depends on where you are looking for a job.....

If by ´elderly´ you mean teachers over 50 years of age...there is plenty of jobs in Korea and China. These countries value experienced teachers and realise that some ´older teachers´ are highly skilled and very experienced and also stable and loyal to their employers.
I, as an ´elderly person´, have no trouble getting work...and getting good jobs too.

I am glad you brought the subject of age up. I am 71, willing to teach English abroad but find that I might be too old. I have a BA in English, an MS in Business Education, and I have completed the coursework for a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision. I really want to use my skills. Should I continue to apply for jobs?

It is great to know that people of the ages mentioned below are able to find jobs in China and so on.... But, you have more experience and knowledge which is becoming stagnant. Isn´t there any other means by which your knowledge can be shared other than just going and teaching in one or two countries? Why not use this platform to share your knowledge?

Finding a "job" is no problem, if you are willing to work for slave wages. Finding a career is far more difficult.Because I am over qualified, I have found it almost impossible to find "a job" which pays middle class wages, that is why I freelance.Age has never been a problem for me, but being born in Ireland has.

Marguerite´s comment is apropos, to a point. I am 62, in good health, energetic, and highly qualified, yet I have great difficulty finding suitable employment. China and S. Korea, in particular, will not issue work permits to anyone over 60 years of age except in very special circumstances. I had been selected by several employers in those countries, but then rejected when they discovered they could not obtain work visas for me, simply because of my age.

I am 65 years old and have been applying for jobs in South Korea for 4 months.Everybody asks me to send my resume but they don´t follow through after that. I am so disgusted. Guess there is no point continuing to waste my time.

I suggest you keep trying. East Asia values advanced and mature age, so please do not feel discouraged!
Good luck to you, Sandra!
