Almost all postings for jobs I´ve seen have been interested in students or singles teaching English. My husband is in the military, and we were stationed in Korea, where I was petitioned constantly to teach. I taught the whole time I was there, and really enjoyed it. Now, we are considering leaving the military and teaching English in Europe. I worry about traveling there with 3 little kids, being able to support them on 2 teaching salaries, and seeing to their schooling as well. Has anyone attempted this and have any advice? Thanks!

Teaching in Oman: Has anyone ever taught in Oman? I am considering it but admit that I am
ignorant to the teaching conditions there. I´m a 24 year old single female and don´t know if it´s a
good place to be single foreigner. Any advice is great appreciated!

Great Crystal International School Surabaya.
After ten years in Indonesia I thought I had heard all the *beep* from schools, but GCIS takes the cake. It’s too long a story to tell here, just post your email and I will send all the details. Suffice it to say I lost almost 2 juta and 2 good Aussie textbooks I loaned to a teacher there. Probably the most amazing thing was when I took over a Primary One class to help them as they were short of teachers. It was the first day of the new semester and many students didn’t have books so I just started playing games like “I Spy” with them, with a small twist, after the word was guessed they had to write it on the whiteboard. All was going well with words like desk and pencil, but one student spelled table “TABEL” I corrected the spelling but was immediately told by the Principal that I should not have done so and hadn’t I heard of “Creative Spelling” near enough is good enough. The Principal was an American woman who has been in Indonesia for 2 years, she still didn’t realize that the student wasn’t being ”Creative” at all, just spelling in Bahasa Indonesia. I wonder what the parents will say when they find out they are paying lots of money for their children to learn to spell in Indonesian and not English. When you teach a young child a mistake, they often carry that mistake for the rest of their lives.

Educational Filmmaking of English Language-Discrimination-Nationalities
Hi, We are few expatriate teachers working in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. We are
working on educational film about the discrimination and corruption in English language and
International Schools in Asia.
We are trying to study, why Asian schools would hire only white looking teachers? Is it really
true?
How schools offer different kind a programmes to parents but in reality most of those
programmes and studies doesn’t really there.
Please help us to get more information on this topic. And if you know more about corruption
please share your stories with us. Your experiences would be a great help.
Thanks

TESOL Canadian teacher with 3 years experience teaching in Taiwan and Thailand. Now in Niteroi Brazil. Anyone have contacts here or ideas of how to find work faster than walking the streets? Tough here to find advertisements or english websites for many of the schools. I love kindergarten teaching. Thanks and best to all of you.

Anyone experience any discrimination, in terms of race in apply for positions? I am trying to get some jobs in Brazil, Taiwan and so on, and a few friends are telling me that its quite the ¨status quo to hire someone with a white face¨.
Just want some feedback, because although it is apparent in America I am interested in knowing how bad it is outside the states. I´d like to get as much feedback from anyone, regardless of your race.
Thanks,
David

Hello everyone. I´m wondering if one needs to have certification (ESL, TEFL, etc.) to be considered for a teaching position? I don´t have a teaching license. Instead, I am a registered nurse who trains other nurses how to use computers and software.
What I want to do is teach anything (English of course) in Brazil. Does a guy like me have a chance at something like this with no formal experience?

Teaching in Mongolia
For those wanting to teach in Mongolia it´s safer to turn up in the country with a tourist visa
and find a job in the country after you arrive. I made the mistake of taking a job with SANTIS
before arriving in Mongolia, which I regretted almost immediately, as did alot of other very
good Teachers. Santis state that they pay one of the highest salaries in the country, infact
they are one of the lowest, and the ten days paid vacation they offer fails to mention that you
have to work for the entire year before you will be paid for your vacation.
Here a few of the other options available:
State school No 3 joint Russian Mongolian school. 14.5 hours pw (paid overtime available)
$1000 pm + accomodation.

Does anyone know any links or info on teaching English online or on telephone? Most links send me to universities that teach English online for students who want to learn English, but I want to be hired as a prof. of English language and grammar. I will appreciate it very much, if you could post your info. Thanks.

First, I would like to say hello to all of the teachers meeting at this site. I have over thirty years experience as a consultant, and Business English Teacher. During my life I have learned that the first rule of negotiations is to never pass the "breaking point" just for the sake of getting a job. If you think about it, there are more jobs than teachers. In fact, those who willingly accept low pay, high hours, and poor conditions, are cutting everyone´s throats. If you can´t reach a mutually satisfactory agreement, don´t accept the job. There is always another position right around the corner. If enough of us demand a contract that reflects the market, things WILL change.
